About Lump Iron Ore
Lump ore is naturally coarse iron ore, screened to a size range that can be charged directly into a blast furnace or, where its chemistry and physical properties allow, a direct-reduction shaft — without first being sintered or pelletized.
Because it bypasses agglomeration, lump is valued by mills looking to lower processing cost and emissions per tonne of hot metal. Its performance depends on chemistry, strength and behaviour under heat, so every parcel is assessed against the buyer’s furnace requirements.
Typical applications
- Blast-furnace burden, blended with sinter and pellets
- Direct-reduction feed, where chemistry and strength allow
- Blending programmes for traders and integrated mills
